All-Star forward Bob Bourne was a key part of the New York Islanders dynasty and one of the select group of players that formed the core of the team’s four straight Stanley Cup championships and record 19 consecutive playoff series wins in the first half of the 1980s. This special photo-matched 1979-80 Islanders game-worn jersey is the one Bourne wore during the Stanley Cup finals, including their Cup-clinching overtime win over Philadelphia in Game 6. Bourne had 20 points, including 10 goals, in 21 playoff games. The 1980 Lake Placid Olympic patch is sewn on the left shoulder of Bourne’s white mesh gamer, with knit inserts on the sleeves and tails. Goodman & Sons size 50 tagging with a “Long” flag tag at the bottom sits in the back of the neck along with Bill Vanderburg tagging. Photo-matches include the big black mark on the front of the jersey, which show in two Getty Images photos from Game 6. More game wear includes team repairs. Comes with MeiGray LOA and COR plus an additional LOA signed by Bob Bourne. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
Photo-matched to Getty Images photo #83060933 by the big black mark on the lower front of the jersey. The photo is undated but shows the Islanders shaking hands with the Flyers, which took place after Bob Nystrom scored the Cup-winning goal in overtime in Game 6 at Nassau Coliseum on May 24, 1980;
Photo-matched Getty Images photo #653961596 from the May 24, 1980 Cup-clinching game to the big black mark on the lower front of the jersey;
Photo-matched to undated Getty Images photo #83061045 to the white mark on the "1" of the No. 14 on the left sleeve.
The white mark on the top of the "4" of the No. 14 on the right sleeve shows in Getty Images photo #83060962 the on-ice celebration with the Stanley Cup, but the image is not high-resolution enough to call it a definitive photo-match.
There are three crude team repairs to board burn tears on the left shoulder, above and to the left of the 1980 Olympic patch, another team repair on the back of the left sleeve, a team repair on the left breast, as well as more black marks and board burns on the front, board burns on the left sleeve, marks on the superb multi-twill Islanders crest on the front, including a bit of red paint transfer on the blade of the hockey stick, a few unrepaired burn holes on the front and one more on the right sleeve, and a white mark on the “U” in the sewn-on blue-on-orange double-twill surname letters on the mesh nameplate.
