Drafted 7th overall by the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins in 1973 as well as 14th overall by the Quebec Nordiques of the WHA in the same year, Blaine Stoughton would play at total of 526 games in the National Hockey League throughout his career as well as 219 in the WHA. A two-time 50 goal scorer with the Hartford Whalers, including in the 1979-80 season when he potted 56 and led the league, and named an All-Star in 1982, offered here is this Whalers jersey worn by Stoughton during the 1979-80 season, their first year in the NHL. Made by Stall & Dean with tagging from the brand as well as washing instructions affixed to the inner collar, fly tags for the size and year reading "48" and "9" are found in the same area as well. An all-mesh construction garment decorated over the front with a Whalers team crest in layered tackle twill, matching "Pucky the Whale" crests have been added over both shoulders in layered tackle twill with chain stitched embroidered details. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Stoughton's number "21" in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill numerals, "Stoughton" is spelt out in matching style letters that have been sewn directly to the jersey across the top of the back. Featuring a dual clasp garter style fight strap on the interior that has been sewn through the numbers on the reverse, the jersey exhibits good game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves while board burns are present over the reverse and both sleeves as well. Sporting additional wear via unrepaired holes and cuts over the right sleeve and lower front, a team repair to the left of the team crest on the front and pilling more board burns at the right hip, good pilling is found at the left hip and on the interior along with light spot stains over the crest, both cuffs and reverse numbers. A COA will accompany the piece.
