Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Who knows how the 1981 Canada Cup might have turned out if HOF goalie Billy Smith had not been injured during pre-tournament action for Team Canada. The New York Islanders great was at the height of his powers late in the summer of 1981 but the injury sidelined him for the tournament. Offered is Smith’s Team Canada 1981 pre-tournament game-worn red mesh jersey which displays no obvious game wear. Size “56” and “Smith” are handwritten in black ink that has bled in the bottom right corner of the SK flag tag in the neck that has bled from washing. “Smith” and his number “31” on the back and sleeves are heat-screened white vinyl as are the team logos on the front and both sleeves and the Sandow SK logo on the right rear hem. Comes with Billy Smith's signed LOA.
The heat-screened white vinyl is wonderfully preserved with only the faintest of cracking observed. Canvas fight strap loop sits inside the back of the jersey. A laundry instruction flag tag sits behind the SK flag tag in the back of the neck.
