Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Hall of Fame goalie Billy Smith’s 1980-81 Islanders game-worn jersey is photo-matched by tears on both sides of the team crest sewn on the front. With his first Stanley Cup to his credit, Battlin’ Billy went 22-10-8 during the regular season, which he and the budding Isles dynasty capped with a successful Cup defense in the spring. Smith’s now-retired No. 31 gamer has Goodman Sons size 54 tagging in the back of the neck. The photo matches are in tears in the bottom outer layer of white twill that expose the blue mesh of the jersey on the left side and on the top right side. Game wear includes a long black mark on the right rear tail and black marks on the stretchy knit orange and white stripes on the sleeves, the same material on the tails with a long black mark on the right rear hem. Comes with Billy Smith’s signed LOA.
There are more black marks on the white and orange stripes on the front tail. The elaborate Islanders crest on the front features four layers of twill, with detailed white and orange logo and team name lettering sewn on a blue twill circle, which is sewn on top of orange, then white circles of twill.
