There are not enough superlatives to adequately describe this phenomenal, spectacular and dazzling old wool Black Hawks sweater but those three are a good start! Preserved in exceptional condition and photo-matched, the jersey was worn by Hall-of-Famer Bill Mosienko, who formed Chicago's potent "Pony Line" in the 1940s with Max and Doug Bentley. Winnipeg-born Mosienko broke in with the Hawks in 1941-42, playing in 11 games. He appeared in two the following season and then arrived for good in '43-44, spending his entire 14-year NHL career with Chicago, potting 258 career goals. His knack for scoring helped result in "Mosey" scoring three goals in a record 21 seconds late in the '51-52 season.
Following extensive research, we've been able to zero in on the '45-46 season for this wonderful treasure, originally obtained from the Mosienko family, with an outside chance of it being from '46-47. A fantastic tricolor felt team crest is sewn on the front and still displays vibrant colors. Bill's number "10", in white-on-red felt is stitched to the back. That's where two team repairs appear; a 1-inch by 1 1/2-inch stitch job in the shape of a "7" is in the second red stripe from the bottom, over by the right seam, while a smaller repair is beneath the "10". The sleeves include a wide 2-inch repair at the base of the left elbow. A 1-inch repair in the lower black stripe on the front and a smaller one up higher complete the trainer's work. There are three tags sewn in the inner rear hem (left hip). A Wilson tag is joined by size 44 and "Dry Clean Only" tags. Regarding the photo-match, an included numeric image has been matched to the marks on the top area of the "C" and "K" of "Black" on the team crest. An image of our team crest has also been superimposed over the crest in the numeric image, with placement of the “Black Hawks” lettering as well as the aforementioned marks in the "C" and "K" matching perfectly, as well as other details of the crest.
An exciting lot to entice serious game-worn enthusiasts, it will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the family of Bill Mosienko. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
