Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

Our consignor's big batch of Bee Hive photos concludes here with an interesting array of material from the "Woodgrain" era, headlined by pictures of the stars of the day, as well as some scarce examples. Condition, as is often typical, improves compared to older photos, with this batch also housed in special same-size pages and three binders - nice. A photo of coach Bernie Geoffrion in his Quebec Aces cardigan sweater, a photo of Bobby Hull promoting Bee Hive Syrup and examples of retired stars Maurice Richard, Turk Broda and Ted Kennedy are joined by conventional player photos, with the break down as follows and star/scarce photos noted: Boston - 22 (Balfour, Bucyk x 3, Kurtenbach, Parent (pinhole), Stapleton), Chicago - 31 (Esposito - 2 different), Hillman, Hull - away blade, away no blade), Nesterenko (light background (Poor), Pilote (home - tape damage (P), Stanfield), Detroit - 29 (Howe, *Floyd Smith away and home reverse negative), Montreal - 24 (Beliveau, Harper light background, Gilles Tremblay #24 (pinhole), New York - 22 (Henry (top-to-bottom crease), Paille, Plante) and Toronto - 33 (McKenney smaller image, Pulford (#20 - soiling/stains on the reverse), Sawchuk, Walton). Vast majority of the photos look to be in crease-free EX-or-better condition, with some intermittent edge toning observed. Complementing the photos is nifty Bee Hive paraphernalia; a collar with a Special Centennial Offer (three collars and 10 cents cash for a Prime Ministers of Canada plaque!), player checklists for 1965-66 (2) and 1966-67 (all feature pen marks), an April 11, 1966 letter from the company informing a collector that his/her request for pictures "includes some that we do not have" and six St. Lawrence Starch envelopes (four measuring 5-1/2” by 8-3/4” and two measuring 6-1/2” by 9-1/2”), with some affected by pen marks. Again, much to consider with these popular blasts from the past.
