Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
This terrific trophy plaque is from the 1987 Canada Cup, an incredible international tournament that offered the world some of the best hockey ever played. Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux led a powerhouse Team Canada to a tightly-contested victory over one of the greatest Russian teams ever assembled. Presented to members of Team Canada 1987, this wooden plaque went to head equipment manager Barrie Stafford. At 7 1/2" x 11”, a chromed cast metal half maple leaf is supported by a 1” tall wooden base with beveled backing and affixed small metal plate that reads “Coupe – Canada – Cup”. Scuffs and scratches to both the wood base and metal maple leaf do not diminish the display of this historic keepsake from the legendary 1987 Canada Cup. Barrie Stafford’s signed LOA will accompany. As an added bonus, a pair of 1981 Canada Cup photo albums are included.
Each identical roughly 6 ½” x 7” album contains 24 4” x 5” photos from the tournament, including a shot of Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Both albums have gilded covers, with one having a protective plastic cover.
