Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Featuring a pair of goals contributed by Nick Metz, with Turk Borda allowing just a single marker, the Toronto Maple Leafs convincingly defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-1 in Game 5 of the 1946-47 semifinals to clinch the series, with this offered program from the historic match signed by members of both the Maple Leafs and Red Wings. Featuring rookie Howie Meeker on the cover, the 80-page program has been signed by approx 44 on four pages including the center line-up, with each connected two-page segment detached. Signers include deceased legend Bill Barilko, along with fellow deceased HOF stars Conn Smythe, Dick Irvin, Frank Selke, Foster Hewitt, Syl Apps, Ted Kennedy, Hap Day and Harry Watson for the Leafs, and Jack Adams, Gordie Howe (rookie season), Ted Lindsay, Jack Stewart, Bill Quackenbush and Roy Conacher for the Red Wings.
The majority of the black ink signatures present well, with the Barilko not infringed upon by background text or other signatures, and the Howe sandwiched between two other signatures. The program itself shows heavy wear throughout, with the signed pages detached as mentioned, with creases to the covers and tears along the spine.
