Awarded thirty-three times to seventeen different clubs since its inception during the 1985–86 season, the President’s Trophy is presented annually to the NHL team that finishes first overall at the conclusion of the regular season. This President’s Trophy replica was presented to Swedish NHL and WHA superstar Anders Hedberg for the New York Rangers status as NHL champions during in 2014-15. At 16” in height, a striking miniature President's Trophy in silver plate stands upon a three-tier wooden base, with three hockey sticks mounted over three silver columns helping to support a shallow, removable bowl. An engraved plaque naming the trophy along with “Anders Hedberg” and “New York Rangers 2014-15” is affixed over the front, and we should note that the enamel NHL shield logo affixed to the front of the upper tier at some point became detached and has been glued to the top of the base. A signed LOA from Anders Hedberg will accompany this prized trophy.
Spending his entire NHL career in Manhattan, Hedberg would return to New York in 2007 to serve as the Rangers’ Head Professional European Scout. The trophy exhibits surface wear throughout, with small areas of discolouration at the base of one of the columns and near the top of a second column, with the upper section able to swivel slightly on the base. We should further note that despite the top section showing no signs of damage with the hockey sticks all straight with no bends, the bowl sits somewhat unevenly, with this a very minor detail mentioned for strict accuracy. The brown felt underside also sports a decal from noted maker Boffey.
