Hall of Fame defenseman Al MacInnis helped Canada win its first gold medal in Olympic men’s hockey in 50 years at the 2002 winter games in Salt Lake City. MacInnis was a mainstay on Canada’s blueline, playing in all six games, including the 5-2 win against the host United States in the final. MacInnis signed in bold black marker to the left of the No. 2 on the back of his Team Canada 2002 Olympics game-worn jersey with Nike size 56 and IIHF tagging in the collar. A “Made in Canada” flag tag hangs from the bottom of the latter and the IIHF patch is sewn on the right rear tail. Game wear includes a small mark on the right sleeve cuff and a mark to the right of the No. 2 on the left sleeve. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA with two signatures, including Frank Selke Jr.
The Nike barcode is heat-screened inside the hem. According to information on the LOA, this MacInnis 2002 Olympics Team Canada jersey could be attributed to Canada’s third Group C game, a 3-3 tie against the Czech Republic. While not a photo match, it references the mark on the left sleeve showing in video footage of “the game following the third and tying goal.” The game against the Czech Republic is the only one of the six games that was ever tied at 3-3 at any point.
