Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
The King Clancy patch. The alternate captain's "A". Team repairs. Wendel Clark's photo-matched and video-matched 1986-87 Toronto Maple Leafs game-worn sweater has them all! Chosen first overall by the Leafs in the 1985 NHL Draft, Clark followed up his 34-goal 1985-86 rookie campaign with 37 goals and 23 assists in his sophomore season.
The photo-matched "A" sewn on the left breast, which has a shorter lower right leg, stands as testimony to the leadership abilities of Clark, who was all of 19 years old when the 1986-87 season began. The Clancy patch is sewn above the blue twill number "17" on the left sleeve. The distinctive team repairs on the lower right sleeve are matched to action photos of Clark from that season. Comes with a MeiGray Vintage LOA that states that the jersey is video-matched to Clark's March 21, 1987 fight with Montreal's John Kordic, all of the Leafs' 1987 playoff road games and to the front cover of the Maple Leafs 1987-88 yearbook. The LOA comes with an action photo of Clark that matches the diagonal board burn on the blue portion to the right of the numbers on the front of the right sleeve. With almost two dozen team repairs and more game wear showing in board burns on the sleeves and inner pilling, this Wendel Clark gamer from his Leafs sophomore season is a blue and white treasure.
There are eight team repairs on the right sleeve and three on the left sleeve, and another sewing fix on the left front tail, which has a red paint transfer mark to the right of it. There are team repairs on the “C” and “L” of the white twill surname letters sewn on the nameplate, and various sewing fixes to the bottom of both white twill numbers sewn on the back. The cuffs of both sleeves have been customized with fortified “V” stitching, and the fight strap has also been customized with two additional straps with plastic clips added. Both of these customizations are consistent with Clark’s game-worn jersey of this era. Red, white and blue CCM logo is embroidered on the right rear tail. It must be noted that the Maska Ultrafil and “86 01” flag tags, which were originally attached in the back of the neck when the MeiGray LOA was produced in 2006, have fallen-off and not present anymore. Also included are digital photos of the entire 1986-87 Maple Leafs game-worn jerseys team set that was purchased by Larry Bourget in the summer of 1987. A superb sweater from one of the most beloved players to ever play for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
