Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Led by 1st Team All-Stars Frank Mahovlich, Ken Dryden and Guy Lapointe, the Montreal Canadiens captured the regular season title in 1972-73, with 52 wins and 120 points. Contributing 8 wins in his 10 games played for the club that season, Wayne Thomas posted an impressive goals against average of 2.37 along with a .911 Save Percentage. For finishing atop the NHL's Eastern Division, members of the Canadiens received miniature Prince of Wales trophies to commemorate their fine campaign, with this example originally presented to Thomas. At approx 13" in height, the H.R.H. Prince of Wales Trophy plaque on the front of the 2" high wood base has "Wayne Thomas" engraved, while a plaque on the reverse of the base reads, "N.H.L Champions, 1972-73, Club de Hockey Canadien". There is minor surface wear in a few areas including the Prince of Wales plaque, with the trophy loose and removable from the base, with this repairable.
