Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Wayne Gretzky placed a big, bold blue marker autograph low on the shaft of his 1997-98 New York Rangers Hespeler game-used stick that he signed and gifted to his former teammate, Tomas Sandstrom. The Great One’s all wood wand from Sandstrom’s personal collection has “Gretzky” stamped in blue high on the shaft. Wayne’s original shaved down “Jack the Gripper” remains in place on the knob and his iconic baby-powdered bulldog tape over the blade remains intact. The "55 7" pattern/batch code is stamped over the underside of the shaft near the heel and the flex rating “115-120” is stamped on the top side of the shaft. Game wear shows in black marks and some red paint transfer on the shaft. There are tape remnants on two areas of the shaft from when the stick was bundled with others, and though the portion low on the shaft was placed over part of Gretz’s signature, the blue marker ink remains as vibrant on the “W” that was previously covered as the rest of his full name. Will come with a Classic Auctions LOA as well as a JSA Auction LOA for the Gretzky signature on the stick.
