Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Swedish All-Star Tomas Sandstrom had the opportunity to play on a line with Wayne Gretzky during the early-1990s and the Great One gifted and signed his Easton 5100 aluminum game-used stick to him. From the personal collection of Tomas Sandstrom, the stick is from the 1993-94 season, as per the “RS 93” (1993-94 regular season) coding handwritten in black marker on the top of the knob along with “Pitt” (Pittsburgh) and “78” (78th game of the NHL master schedule). Wayne’s original shaved down “Jack the Gripper” remains in place over the handle/knob with the hockey tape removed from the blade for Gretzky to apply his big bold black marker signature. "Gretzky" is stamped on the Easton blade insert. The shaft exhibits game wear in the form of marks and some blue paint transfer. What appears to be corrosion or “pitting” is visible along the back of the shaft and on a few other spots on the aluminum shaft, and there is a portion of the shaft that has split in the bottom front corner where the blade is inserted, none of which diminish the stick’s display. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA, as well as JSA Auction LOA for the Gretzky autograph on the stick.
