Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

Well remembered for the check on Wayne Gretzky by defenseman Gary Suter in Game 1, the 1991 Canada Cup tournament witnessed yet another Canadian victory, with the host nation taking out the Americans in a two-game final. Gretzky was also the tournament scoring leader, with 12 points in 7 games. We have a Team Canada jersey that was worn during tournament practices by The Great One. A Maska Air-Knit label sits affixed to the collar near a size “54” fly tag, with a large embroidered CCM crest over the reverse bottom hem. Featuring a rubberized Canada Cup logo over the front, “99” along with “Gretzky” is present over the reverse in white heat-pressed numbers and letters. Velco has also been added along the inside hem, with the fight strap fully intact. Originating from the collection of longtime Flyers training staff member Jim “Turk” Evers, a signed COA from Evers will accompany.
We should add regarding the provenance that Jim Evers was part of the training staff for Team Canada at the 1991 Canada Cup. With no obtrusive marks or wear, the vinyl heat-pressed sleeve and verso numbers exhibit some light peeling of the material, with “Gretzky” over the nameplate exhibiting some loss including mainly through the “Z” and “T”.
