Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024

Scoring 205 points in only 87 contests – unheard of in today’s current game – the 1983-84 NHL season witnessed Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers triumphant in their first Stanley Cup championship, with The Great One securing the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lester B. Pearson awards. Still one of the most collected players in the game and the possessor of fifty-eight (58) National Hockey League records, offered here is this exceptionally rare stick used to "The Great One" for use during the 1983-84 season that has also been signed by him. An all red Titan Turbo example that sports a "W. Gretzky" name stamp over the upper shaft, our consignor states that his father, who was the players parking lot attendant at the fabled Montreal Forum, received the stick late in the 1983-84 season when the Oilers rolled into town. Only the second such example we have ever handled, the other lone Titan Turbo that we have seen was from Edmonton's March 13th, 1984 game in Quebec City against the Nordiques and upon looking at the Oilers schedule from that season, their next contest was in Montreal against Les Canadiens. Never having been taped over either the handle/knob or blade and having had "10-8" penned over the forehand and backhand side of the knob in black marker ink, the stick is void of a date stamp on the underside of the lower shaft and retains its foil accent sticker around the bottom of the shaft as well. Signed by Gretzky over the forehand side of the blade with a black marker ink signature that displays well despite some fading from age, the autograph has been inscribed with "To Johnny, Best of Luck" in matching ink and dated with "84" at the end. Remaining in overall good condition, the stick shows some wear to the Titan graphics over both sides of the shaft and displays with other various marks over the blade, heel and shaft as well while remaining free from any cracks or breaks.
