Wayne Gretzky is the only player in NHL history to record 200 points in a season and the Great One accomplished the feat an incredible four times! Gretz was wearing these photo-matched Jofa gloves when he first broke the 200-point plateau with the Edmonton Oilers during the 1981-82 season. On March 25, 1982 in Calgary, Wayne scored a pair of shorthanded goals and added two assists to surpass the milestone for the first time with a four-point effort in a 7-2 win against the Flames at the old Stampede Corral on his way to an astounding 212-point season. There are four perfect photo matches on the back cuff of the left glove in an action shot of Gretzky from the 200th-point game. The misaligned sewn-on Jofa patch clearly shows. The four grommets that serve as lace eyelets display both the distinctive staggered spacing and that they are misaligned and not arrayed in a straight line. The puckering of the white trim between the upper two grommets also clearly shows in the photo. These historic and museum-worthy Gretzky game-worn gloves display wonderful nice wear in the hole-free palms and solid game use including black marks on the thumbs and scuffs and scrapes. Comes with an LOA from Shawn Chaulk. Gretzky used these gloves during the 1981-82 season but they were also carried over and used by Wayne in the 1982-83 season. In the 200th-point game photos you can see that the gloves look fairly new and that’s why they were still around and used in the first part of the following season. A close look at the cuffs shows that there were much smaller “99” stickers applied to the gloves from the 1981-82 season under the bold orange “99” stickers now in place that were used in 1982-83.
Wayne broke Phil Esposito’s single-season goal scoring record with his 77th in Buffalo on February 24 and he finished the season with a record 212 points so there is a good chance that these gloves were worn for both of those milestone events.
