Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
When Wayne Gretzky stepped onto the ice in the late 1970s as the next great hockey star of the
NHL, he did so with Gordie Howe’s shadow looming large. Gordie was the player every
Canadian kid grew up idolizing, and years later in a full-circle moment, Gretzky would surpass
his hero to become the NHL’s all-time points leader. This stunning framed display
commemorates that exact moment, the passing of the torch from Howe to Gretzky, captured in a
legendary photograph of the two smiling, each holding a puck marked with their career point
totals: 1,850 for Howe, 1,851 for Gretzky.
Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe have each signed the piece in bold blue marker directly over
the image. Both autographs are clean, well-positioned, and display beautifully. A Frameworth
hologram sticker is affixed to the bottom left corner of the photo, and a Frameworth COA comes
attached on the back of the frame as well. The photograph itself measures approximately 16” x
19” and is accompanied by a descriptive plaque beneath it. The presentation features elegant
matte black matting with white and gold accent borders, all housed under glass within an
elegant black frame. Overall dimensions are approximately 29 3/8” x 30 1/4”.
