A veteran of twelve (12) seasons in the National Hockey League after growing up in the former Soviet Union and coming over to North America with the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, Dmitri Khristich would go on to play a total of 811 games in the NHL after being drafted 120th overall by the Washington Capitals at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. A gold medalist with the Soviet Union at the 1990 IIHF World Hockey Championships and representing Ukraine at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, offered here is this Capitals jersey worn by Khristich during the 1991-92 pre-season. Made by CCM and originally first donned by Ken Sabourin for five (5) games during the 1991 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a Maska Air-Knit label displaying a penned size "54" designation in blue ballpoint pen ink is affixed to the inner collar while both the CCM and NHL emblems have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Capitals team crest in individually sewn on tackle twill letters, "Washington" has been embroidered into the front in red thread and single layer red and blue tackle twill stars are present over the front and both sleeves. Accented over the sleeves and verso with the number "8" in dual layer blue-over-red tackle twill numerals, "Khristich" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse while some damage caused by the removal of the former Sabourin nameplate is observed at the top left corner and in places along the top edge. Displaying light-to-moderate game-wear, stick marks are observed over the front, reverse and both sleeves, while coloured board paint transfer marks exist over the front and both sleeves. Sporting additional wear via some board burns over both sleeves and overall very light pilling on the interior, the inside retains its original fight strap and shows additional evidence of the former Sabourin nameplate.
