Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Differing completely in both character and intellectual ability, Bugs Bunny is witty and flippant, always ready to trick any gullible mark, while Elmer Fudd, always aiming to hunt Bugs, usually ends up seriously injuring himself and other antagonizing characters. Depicted here in this scene from the cartoon short titled "Rabbit of Seville" that has released in 1950 and which is a play on the opera titled "The Barber of Seville". Captured in this hand-painted cel by Chuck Jones sitting in the barbers chair while Bugs soaks his scalp in "hare tonic", the cel measures out to 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" and is framed to full dimensions of roughly 16" x 18". Serial numbered "118/500" in black ink at the bottom of the piece and signed by Jones with a black marker ink signature over the bottom left hand corner of the piece above a "Warner Bros. Inc. 1988" copyright that has been penned in similar black ink, a Linda Jones authentication stamp is found over the bottom right hand corner in gold coloured foil. Appearing to remain in overall fine condition, the piece is double matted and contained in a simple black frame that shows light wear from age and display that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
