Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Widely regarded as one of the toughest and most skilled Russian defensemen of his era,
Vladimir Konstantinov played with an edge that made him a fan favorite in Detroit. His promising
career was tragically cut short following a devastating limousine accident just days after the Red
Wings’ 1997 Stanley Cup win. The very next year, in an emotional tribute, his teammates’
brought him onto the ice to celebrate their back-to-back championship win. It remains one of the
most unforgettable moments in NHL history.
This jersey comes from the 1993–94 season and is a size “52” CCM model. Inside the collar, a size “52” fly tag is sewn beside an EastSide tag with a CCM Maska tag below it. The inside reverse hem has a white EastSide "Authentic 1993-94 Detroit Red Wings Game Sweater" team stamp. On the exterior back hem, both a red-and-white CCM logo and an NHL shield are stitched on. “16” is applied to both sleeves and the back in white single-layer twill, while “KONSTANTINOV” is spelt out in matching style letters that have been sewn down directly to the material at the upper reverse in a gentle arch. The interior features a well-worn fight strap exhibiting light pilling, faint reddish discoloration, and oxidation on the snap buttons which is consistent with multiple washings.
Game wear is notable across the garment, though some of it is partially washed-out.
Faint stick marks are visible on the front lower torso, along with several yellow stains over the
white portion of the waistband on both the right and left sides. The right sleeve shows additional
wear, including a clear stick mark over the “1” and a board burn further down the sleeve. The left
sleeve exhibits similar wear, with faint stick marks on the sleeve and a small board burn near the
elbow. The back of the jersey also shows a few stick marks, most visible along the lower portion.
On the interior front, several stick marks remain.
