Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Crowned Eastern League/International League champions 10 times from 1902 to 1966, the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club were especially dominant in the 1910s, winning pennants in 1912, 1917 and 1918. From that glorious era, we offer rarely found Maple Leafs baseball programs totaling eight and including five from 1912, two from 1914 and one from 1916 - with this 1916 program featuring an exhibition game against the Detroit Tigers and Ty Cobb. The 1912 programs are vs Buffalo, Newark, Montreal, Rochester and Jersey City - all scored except Buffalo and Rochester, and all feature a cameo photograph of HOFer Joe Kelley, who played and managed the club from 1907 to 1914. His time with Toronto is noteworthy, as Kelley received the highest salary for a minor league player to date when he signed in 1907 for $5,000.00 (just under $168,000.00 in 2025 dollars). The 1916 program vs Detroit lists Cobb in the starting line-up and it is unscored. The 1914 programs are vs Newark and Rochester with both scored. The group all show wear from age and handling as expected, with some rusting to the staples. This is part of a large group of early Maple Leafs material in this auction all hailing from a longtime collector.
