Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
This early-to-mid-1980s New York Rangers No. 27 game-worn jersey (circa 1983) is attributed to having been worn by Tomas Sandstrom during the team’s training camp for the 1984-85 season. Sandstrom was New York’s second-round pick (No. 36 overall) in the 1982 NHL Draft and would go on to record 58 points (29 goals, 29 assists) in 58 games as a Rangers rookie in 1984-85. Recycled from a previous season, the jersey has evidence of a former nameplate that measured approximately 16 ½” long. Three players wore No. 27 during that era, including Gary Burns (1981), Mike Rogers (1982-83) and Willie Huber (1984-88). Cosby size 52 and laundry instruction tagging is sewn inside the back of the neck of the white mesh gamer that has a fight strap loop inside the back. Game wear shows in black marks and board burns including an unrepaired burn hole on the right sleeve, and there are two small portions of the white mesh material missing from the left front hem near the hip. From the personal collection of Tomas Sandstrom, this unique Rangers jersey comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
