Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
From the personal collection of Tomas Sandstrom, the Swedish forward’s 1989-90 Rangers game-worn No. 28 jersey is from his final season in New York. Sandstrom had 38 of his 71 points that season during his first 48 games with the Rangers before he was traded along with Tony Granato to the L.A. Kings on Jan. 20, 1990 when the Blue Shirts acquired Bernie Nicholls. Two Getty Images shots provide photo-matches, #1001865836 from Nov. 26, 1989 shows the marks on the letters “A” and “G” in the team name sewn on the front, and #1001874458 from the same game shows the two marks below the “8” on the left sleeve. Those marks appear lighter now than in the photo as they have faded with time. This gamer from the Rangers’ first set of jerseys from the 1989-90 season has Cosby tagging in the neck and “54” is handwritten in ballpoint on the CCM flag tag below it. CCM patch is embroidered on the right rear tail, the fight strap has discoloration from numerous washings, there is pilling inside the jersey, black marks on the front tail and sleeves, and three team repairs, one on the right sleeve and a pair on the left sleeve.
