Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Tomas Sandstrom was on the verge of beginning his 15-year NHL career when he played for Sweden at the 1984 Canada Cup. The Swedes caused a surprise by reaching the tournament final with a 9-2 win against the United States in their semi-final before losing two straight to Canada in the best-of-3 final. Sandstrom, a 20-year-old forward, had two points (one goal, one assist) in eight Canada Cup games before joining the New York Rangers for his 1984-85 rookie season. This Canada Cup game-worn jersey from the personal collection of Tomas Sandstrom has heat-pressed numbers as well as the surname letters on the nameplate. High-collared neck has a Sportjohan manufacturer’s flag tag in the back. The jersey is photo-matched to the slightly blueish mark on the lower front right hem by one digital image. Another digital image offers photo matches to the marks on the lower front hem and also shows the No. “2” on the left sleeve that is slightly angled with relation to the blue striping below it. The texture mesh fabric on the front of the jersey displays loads of pilling. A long board burn along the blue stripe below the numbers is the best of the rest of the game wear, that includes black marks on the sleeves. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
