Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
One of the best seasons for any goaltender in modern memory, in 2010-11 Tim Thomas led the Boston Bruins to the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship since 1972 while earning selection to the NHL First All-Star team, as well as winning the Vezina and Conn Smythe trophies. From that noteworthy season, we have a single right goal pad worn in both the NHL All-Star Game and regular season, photo-matched to both, including a fight with Carey Price on Feb 9, 2011. The lot also has a set of pads worn in the 2011-12 NHL regular season photo-matched as a pair worn together. The single pad is a Vaughn model while the pair are Vaughn V4 models, all matching in style except for the V4 logo on the pair, and the black leather accents within the side pad separations on the single pad which also has four distinct side pads instead of three as seen on the pair. "Thomas" is also embroidered onto the side of each pad, with Kay Whitmore initials on the pair and single pad as acting goaltending supervisor of the NHL. There is also a handwritten code that appears from Whitmore on the single pad of "11-30" and on the pair of "9-30" which is believed to be the dates he approved them. Both the pair and single pad show nice game-use with numerous marks and wear. For the single pad, Getty Image #108625001 (Jan 30, 2011 NHL All-Star Game) has been matched to a number of distinct marks on the pad with the correct size and placement. Additionally, Getty Images #108369617 (January 26, 2011 Boston vs Florida), #109312664 (February 13, 2011 Boston vs Detroit) and #108955156 (February 09, 2011 Boston vs Montreal - fight vs Carey Price!) have all been matched to a number of distinct marks on the pad with the correct size and placement. Regarding the pair, Getty Image #131109632 (October 27, 2011 Boston vs Montreal) has been matched to marks on the left pad, including the distinct curling mark near the bottom center of the pad, while Getty Image #131109626 (October 27, 2011 Boston vs Montreal) has been matched to marks on the right pad, including the cut to the material over the center bottom. From his personal collection, a signed LOA from Tim Thomas will accompany.
