Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Beginning as Tool Shop Hardware Co. in 1906 by Lee Lippman’s father before being renamed Tool Shop Sporting Goods Co. and finally, Lippman's Sporting Goods, the company shared a long relationship with the Detroit Red Wings as their chief supplier throughout the late-1940s and 1950s. Originally presented to superstar Ted Lindsay, we have a “Lee Lippman Annual Dow Award” trophy that originates from his personal collection. At 15” in height and featuring a large generic player mounted over a columned trophy bowl with tiered wooden base, the player has become detached but is present (the trophy originally stood almost 22” in height with mounted player), with mounted eagles at each corner along the top of the base. An affixed plaque has been engraved with “1954-55 Winner Ted Lindsay”, with the title text engraved to the trophy bowl. Exhibiting moderate surface wear throughout including small areas where the finish has been completely worn away, the trophy displays nicely, with an LOA from the Lindsay family to accompany.
