Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
The classic battle for world hockey supremacy, the 1972 Canada-Russia Series will be forever remembered as the ultimate clash between western and eastern powers. The victorious Canadians retained their dominance over the Soviets and the sport at large, with the result coming down to the wire and decided on Paul Henderson's historic goal with only thirty-four (34) seconds left in the series. Offered here, we present this collection of eleven (11) sticks issued to players of Team Canada for the famed Summit Series of 1972. Including examples of HOFers Guy Lapointe (Victoriaville - "23" penned over the handle which has been shaved down - shows various marks throughout) and Rod Gilbert (Victoriaville) as well as Rod Seiling (Sher-Wood), Wayne Cashman (Northland), Vic Hadfield (Sher-Wood), Brian Glennie (CCM), Dennis Hull (Victoriaville), Mickey Redmond (Sher-Wood), Red Berenson (Northland), Don Awrey (Sher-Wood) and Bill White (Victoriaville), it is worth noting that all the Sher-Wood sticks have early July 1972 factory date stamps over their undersides above heels while the Victoriaville brand twigs are all "Special Model" offerings with red and white tape bands made specifically for the Canada-Russia series. Additionally, for the Northland sticks, the Berenson example sports red and white striping for the Detroit Red Wings while Cashman's stick has striping accents in Beantown's black, white and yellow. With all the sticks included remain in overall excellent condition with many showing just light wear via some handling and age via some minor marks and abrasions plus in some cases spots of while the name stampings all remain strong and legible. Additionally, each stick has had a Heritage Hockey Authentics hologram affixed to it on the lower backside of the shaft with each accompanied by a matching COA.
