Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Enjoying a long life in hockey, including a stint as President of the Toronto Hockey League (now known as the Greater Toronto Hockey League) and association with clubs such as the Toronto Marlboros and Weston Dukes in the junior ranks of the Ontario Hockey Association's Junior "A" and Junior "B" divisions, offered here is this collection of Ontario Hockey Association medals awarded to Topping during his time with both the Marlboros and Dukes that hail from between 1951-52 and 1957-58. All the same style and shape that measures approximately 1" x 1 1/2" for their efforts, each medal shows generic hockey player imagery over its front as well as an enamel Ontario Provincial Shield at its top which is flanked by "OHA" around it underneath. Also reading "Ontario Hockey Association" along the bottom front of each gold coloured medallion, the group includes examples from the Weston Dukes for the 1951-52 season (engraved with "Weston Dukes - Junior "B" Champions - 1951-52 - Perc Topping" over its reverse), the Weston Dukes for the 1952-53 season (engraved with "Weston Dukes - Junior "B" Champions - 1953 - Perc Topping MGR" over its reverse) and Toronto Marlboros for the 1957-58 season (engraved with "Marlboro Junior "A" Hockey Club - Champions - 1958 - Perc Topping" over its reverse). With the Dukes example from 1952-53 and Marlboros medal from 1957-58 both retaining their red-white-blue coloured ribbons tied through its suspension ring, each also sports either a "Trophy Craft" or "York Plating Mfg Co" stamp over their reverses long the bottoms and each is stamped "GF" for gold filled. All in overall excellent condition, each shows minor wear from age and handling through light tarnishing or scratches that are worth mentioning for accuracy while the Dukes example from 1951-52 shows a tiny spot of pitting on the reverse side. Additionally, also included with the lot is a set of Ontario Hockey Association cufflinks and a pair of OHA stick pins, with all but one of the stick pins showing an enamel Ontario Provincial Shield over them, with the final pin seen in the shape of a hockey stick with "OHA" over its blade and a stamp of "Birks-Ellis" over its reverse along with another reading "10K". All the items hail from Topping's former estate.
