Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Enjoying a long life in hockey, including a stint as President of the Toronto Hockey League (now known as the Greater Toronto Hockey League) and association with clubs such as the Toronto Marlboros and Weston Dukes in the junior ranks of the Ontario Hockey Association's Junior "A" and Junior "B" divisions, offered here is this collection of memorabilia associated with the Toronto Hockey League (now known as the Greater Toronto Hockey League - GTHL) which includes items from his stint as league President between 1938 and 1940. Paced by Topping's Toronto Hockey League history and by-law book that was presented to him by 1962 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Frank D. Smith, the founder of the Toronto Hockey League, the small 4 1/2" x 6 1/4" book sports a red leather cover with "T. "Perc" Topping - President - Toronto Hockey League - 1939" stamped in gold letters over the lower right portion of the front cover. Remaining in good condition with expected wear from age and handling, Smith has penned a note to Topping inside the front cover that reads "With heartiest congratulations to President T. P. Topping for the league's most successful season" and then signed underneath that. Also including Topping's gold coloured President's medal/badge that lists his name and title plus years he served as President, a small diamond is embedded into imagery of a hockey puck on the front, seen below a pair of crossed hockey sticks while the reverse is stamped with "Trophy Craft" at the bottom and retains its original clip. Also including a small medal that was presented to Topping in recognition of his service as THL President, which measures roughly 1" x 1 1/2" and retains its original ribbon at the top, the rest of the lot includes seven (7) original photographs of Topping in various hockey scenarios, including presenting trophies in 1955 and hanging out with Bob Baun, Bob Pulford and the Stanley Cup in 1967, the final items included are yearbooks from the Toronto Hockey League/Metro Toronto Hockey League's 1961-62 (50th anniversary) and 1971-72 seasons. All in overall good condition with varying degrees of wear shown, the medals/badges show some tarnishing/scratches while the books and photos show things like toning, creases, rips/tears,s stains and separated bindings that are worth mentioning for accuracy. All near mementos, don't miss out on these items that all hail directly from Topping's former estate!
