Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Selected by the Washington Capitals in 1984 before two seasons with the University of New Hampshire, Steve Leach spent parts of six seasons in the US capital before time with six other NHL clubs including Boston, St Louis and Ottawa. This Capitals jersey was worn by the Massachusetts native in 1990-91 - his final season with the club. Made by CCM with a Maska Air-Knit label displaying a penned size "54" designation in blue ballpoint pen ink is affixed to the inner collar while both the CCM and NHL emblems have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Capitals team crest in individually sewn on tackle twill letters, "Washington" has been embroidered into the front in red thread and single layer red and blue tackle twill stars are present over the front and both sleeves. Accented over the sleeves and verso with the number "21" in dual layer blue-over-red tackle twill numerals, "Leach" is spelt out in matching material over the nameplate. The jersey shows prolonged game-use with numerous puck marks to the lower front and each sleeve littered with additional puck and stick marks. There are also board burns throughout and heavy red and blue paint transfer to the right sleeve. A well-worn and desirable style vintage jersey overall! An LOA will accompany.
