Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Wisely making the trip overseas to play in the NHL after first gaining success in his native Sweden, Stefan Persson was drafted by the New York Islanders in 1974 and played nine seasons on Long Island beginning in 1977-78. A member of all four of the Islanders Stanley Cup championships, including in 1982-83, when the club finished second in the Patrick Division before victoriously battling a youthful Wayne Gretzky and company in the Stanley Cup final. This Stanley Cup trophy was presented to Persson for the Islanders status as 1977 Stanley Cup champions. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with green felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three rows beneath the Islanders’ executives, with “New York Islanders” and “1982-83” engraved above. Condition is gorgeous, with no obtrusive dents or marks whatsoever. A small label with "Persson" is affixed to the underside green felt which is currently loose and could be re-glued to the base. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Stefan Persson will accompany this majestic Stanley Cup championship trophy.
