Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A product of the famed Brynas IF system in his native Sweden, Stefan Persson would be drafted 214th overall by the New York Islanders at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft and would go on to play a total of 622 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his North American career, all with the Islanders, with whom he won a total of four (4) Stanley Cup championships with. Known for his adept passing ability and an occasional scoring touch to go along with a responsible, defensive style that was endorsed highly by the Islanders head coach, Al Arbour, offered here is this New York Islanders jersey worn by Persson during the 1980-81 season which is attributed to the 1981 Stanley Cup Playoffs before he was injured during the second (2nd) round. A mesh construction offering made by Sandow SK, brand labeling which displays penned size "48" and Persson's number "7" designations in either faded black ballpoint or red marker ink is affixed to the inner collar while the "Sandow SK" logo is heat screened on in white over the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a familiar Islanders team crest that has been administered in a layered tackle twill style, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Persson's number "7" in dual layer blue-over-orange dual layer tackle twill numerals. Having had "Persson" spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate across the top of the reverse, the jersey features a pair of loop style fight straps sewn in on the interior. Displaying overall light game-wear, stick marks are seen over the lower front and right sleeve while board burns are present while board burns exist throughout the left sleeve over the elbow and forearm. Also showing some light spot staining over both the lower front and upper reverse as well as a light blue coloured board paint transfer to the right of the last "S" in "Islanders", light fraying/pilling exists around the collar which is worth mentioning for accuracy. Hailing directly from Persson's personal collection, the jersey is accompanied by his signed LOA.
