Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
This early- to mid-1960s Stan Mikita Northland game-used stick is the model that the Chicago Black Hawks legend wielded in an era when he won the Art Ross Trophy in back-to-back seasons (1963-64 and 1964-65) for the first time. The Hall of Fame center’s original tape jobs are on the blade and knob, which has his retired No. “21” handwritten in red below it and “Mikita” stamped in the middle of the shaft. “Gunzo’s Sports Center Berwyn, Ill.” and “Made by Northland Ski Mfg. Co. St. Paul, Minn., U.S.A.” stamps are on both sides of the shaft which also has a “Lie No 7” stamp. Red paint transfer on the shaft and around the heel and black marks testify to its game use by one of the most prolific scorers of the 1960s.
A Stanley Cup champion in 1961, Mikita claimed the Art Ross trophy four times in the decade and won the Hart, Art Ross and Lady Byng in consecutive seasons in 1966-67 and 1967-68
There are a few strands of vintage black tape in the middle of the shaft and it is unknown if there is a small crack or chip underneath it. But the stick is very solid and doesn't feel like it is cracked/broken.
