Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Entering his 12th NHL season as a current Stanley Cup champion, Sidney Crosby can be fairly judged now as a veteran, and it’s reasonable to say that he’s already cemented a solid Hall of Fame career. He’s been a playoff MVP, an Art Ross winner twice as the league’s leading scorer and a Hart Memorial winner as the NHL MVP. He’s also led his country to gold on more than one occasion, performing in the clutch as well as any past superstar or HOFer on the World Junior, World Championship and Olympic stages. With that said, it’s no surprise that game-worn items from the modern phenom are extremely desirable and highly sought after. We are pleased to be able to offer to the collecting community a Pittsburgh Penguins captain’s jersey that was worn by the Halifax native in his fourth NHL season of 2008-09, and it’s been photo-matched.
CCM size tagging along with a Reebok name band are affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Reebok crests on the front and back necklines respectively. Featuring the vintage-style 1970’s Penguins team crest that has seen modern use throughout the 2000s, the solid black v-neck has been fully embellished with attractive textured triple-twill numbers, captain’s “C” and name-on-nameplate. The team patch resides on the inside hem, and it divulges that this garment is a “Set 1” example. An LOA from the Penguins organization along with a COR from MeiGray will accompany.
Game-wear on the important sweater includes just a few faint marks over each sleeve, along with a red spot centered on the team crest, which is possibly paint transfer. There is also a team repair on the backside of the right shoulder. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, an included photo has been matched to the red spot on the team crest, and to the crease in the team crest directly to the left of the red dot. The same photo has also been matched to the visible white threading along the lower left side of the captain’s “C”, and to the visible white threading at the very top right corner of the team crest. The red dot on the team crest is also photo-matched to four Getty images from November 22nd and 29th 2008.
