Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Sid the Kid lived up to the hype and then some as the No. 1 pick in the 2005 NHL Draft. After claiming Mario Lemieux with the top pick in 1984, the Pittsburgh Penguins were thunderstruck with more good fortune when they won the lottery to claim Sidney Crosby, who proved to be yet another franchise icon. Crosby’s NHL journey began at Pittsburgh’s iconic Mellon Arena, whose exterior is etched in a black matte at the bottom of this huge framed display of a signed photo of Sid in action. Crosby placed a bold black marker signature on the right side of this wonderful image of him in full flight with his eyes on the puck. The 16” x 20” photo has a hologram sticker affixed to the bottom left. “Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins” is etched in the matte below the etching of the old arena, lovingly known as “The Igloo”. The signed photo display is mounted in a 33 ½” x 26 ½” frame with a Frameworth COA on the reverse.
