Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A fan favourite of the bleu, blanc et rouge for a total of 14 season, Saku Koivu spent nine of his seasons in Montreal serving as team captain before moving on to play out the rest of his National Hockey League career with the Anaheim Ducks. The 21st overall pick of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Koivu would win multiple Olympic and IIHF medals over the course of his career, including Olympic silver in 2006 and World Championship gold in 1995. Hailing from his second to last season in Montreal with the Canadiens, offered here is this stick wielded by Koivu. A CCM Vector 10 model with a faded "S. Koivu" name stamp appearing over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of red cloth-over-white around the handle/knob, which has been finished at the bottom with a ring of white, while black covers the toe area of the blade. Signed by Saku over the forehand side of the blade with a large silver marker ink signature that displays without issue, the twig displays with excellent game use including multiple marks and abrasions throughout its entirety, with the majority of them over the lower shaft and heel areas. With the forehand side of the lower shaft, heel and blade also sporting many red post paint transfer marks as well, the forehand side of the blade tape also shows a few marks as well that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
