Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
There’s a quiet brilliance in the way Ron Francis played the game—an elite playmaker with a
two-way presence that made him one of the most reliable and respected players of his era. A
two-time Stanley Cup champion and Hall of Famer, Francis had an uncanny ability to control the
flow of the game, setting up teammates with surgical precision. He retired with 1,798 career
points, ranking fifth on the NHL’s all-time scoring list at the time. The 2003-04 season marked
the final chapter of his remarkable career, closing the book on one of the most consistent and
influential runs in hockey history.
A standout piece, this stick is from Francis’s 2003-04 season and remains in excellent condition,
showing very light wear. “10 FRANCIS” is printed on the nameplate on the shaft and the stick
retains Francis’s original tape job at the knob. The blade is bare, where Francis has signed the
stick in bold silver marker. On the heel of the blade, he inscribed “Best Wishes Lou” alongside
his signature. Toward the bottom of the backside of the shaft, “Conference Semi-Finals Game 5
– Flyers 7 Toronto 2” is written in black marker, identifying the stick’s use to the second-to-last
NHL game Francis ever played in the NHL. The Maple Leafs were eliminated in the following
game as the Flyers won the series in six games, marking the end of Francis’s storied playoff
career. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
These sticks come from the personal collection of Lou Nolan, the legendary voice of the
Philadelphia Flyers. Nolan has been a fixture with the Flyers since the team’s inception in 1967,
starting as a press box assistant before becoming the team’s public address announcer in
1972—a role he’s held ever since. For over five decades, he has been calling plays for Flyers
hockey, his voice guiding us through some of the franchise’s most iconic moments. This of
course includes their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. These sticks,
personally gifted to Nolan by some of the NHL’s biggest legends, reflect the relationships he’s
built over his storied career and the trust and admiration he’s earned within the NHL community
