Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A product of the Ontario Hockey Association's Toronto Marlboros that helped the junior club to a Memorial Cup championship in 1964, Ron Ellis would go on to play a total of 1034 games in the National Hockey League between 1964 and 1981, winning a Stanley Cup in 1967 and being named to the NHL All-Star Game on four (4) occasions. Also named to Team Canada for the famed Summit Series of 1972 against the Soviet Union, where he would put up three (3) points in eight (8) games played, offered here is this Maple Leafs jersey worn by Ellis during his final NHL season of 1980-81. An Ultrafil knit offering made by Maska, the tattered remains of a brand label are affixed to the inner collar while a faded size tag in found on the interior further down the shoulder seam. Measuring out to roughly a size "50" and having had a "Maska" wordmark logo embroidered into the reverse hem, which has been hemmed/folded up on the interior to Ellis' liking, the front of the garment is decorated with a familiar and partially embroidered Maple Leafs team crest while matching alternate logo crests reside atop of each shoulder. With the sleeves having been shortened and customized to Ron's liking and now featuring an elastic cuff, the sleeves and verso have been styled with his number "6" in single layer twill numerals while "Ellis" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed shoulder-to-shoulder nameplate at the top of the reverse. Appearing all original with no evidence of another nameplate present under the one that is currently affixed, the jersey shows game-wear via heavy pilling and numerous fabric pulls throughout the body and sleeves while stick marks exist over the front hem and both sleeves also. Additionally, there is a small unrepaired cut over the front hem and the interior retains its original fight strap.
