Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

Ravishing red durene worn by Rogatien Vachon while with the Montreal Canadiens during the early-1970s. Known for his great reflexes and quick glove hand, Vachon was considered one of the premier one-on-one goaltenders of his era. He never allowed a goal on a penalty shot in his entire career. Vachon shared the 1968 Vezina Trophy with Gump Worsley while with the Canadiens and was a part of three Stanley Cups in Montreal. The heavy knit by Wilson has the maker's tagging in the collar with the size "50" designation marked in fading ballpoint ink. The vintage tie-neck style no longer has the collar lace but a peek inside the tail reveals the garter style fight strap common on these jerseys. Two-layer tackle twill number "1" is there on the back and again on each sleeve and the front sports the historic Habs "CH" crest. Lighter wear overall includes a few marks, rust-colored stains and one tiny team repair up on the left sleeve. The shirt displays a large autograph across the belly and Rogie has added his player number "30". Rogie wore the number "1" throughout the 1970-71 season and for a single game in 1971-72 before being dealt to the Los Angeles Kings. We believe that this was Rogie's last Habs uniform that he saved as a souvenir of his days in Montreal. From the personal collection of Rogatien Vachon, complete with his signed letter of authenticity.
