Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Montreal netminder Rogie Vachon split the duties between the pipes with future Hall-of-Famer Gump Worsley over the 1967-68 campaign. Rogie would see action in 39 of the team's tilts that year, registering an impressive record of 23 wins and recording 4 shutouts. Perhaps the most beautiful and certainly the most intricate of the NHL team awards, the Prince of Wales Trophy was presented to the regular season Champions of the conference bearing the its name. This personal miniature was presented by the National Hockey League to Rogie as a member of the 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens. Four towering sticks rise from the wood base to support a silver plate cup with attached lid. A plaque on one side of the base reads "HRH Prince of Wales Trophy Rogatien Vachon". The opposing side is inscribed "NHL Champions - Winners 1967-68 - Club de Hockey Canadien". The award shows its age with toning and slight finish loss in areas, sports a golden patina and the upper portion is slightly loose where it attaches to the base. Will come with a letter of authenticity from Rogie Vachon.
