Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
A hard-nosed physical defender who played his junior hockey with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL, Rod Buskas would be drafted 112th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 1981 NHL Entry Draft and would go on to play a total of 556 games in the league with the likes of Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Los Angeles and Chicago. Pittsburgh's all-time leader in penalty minutes at the time of his departure in 1990, offered here is this Penguins jersey worn by Buskas during the 1987-88 season in which he posted a career high of 206 penalty minutes in 76 games played. Made by CCM, a lone Maska Air-Knit label is affixed to the inner collar while the CCM small block style logo has been embroidered into the reverse hem. Measuring out to roughly a size "52" for its effort and retaining its fight strap on the interior, the front of the jersey is decorated with a screened on Penguins team crest. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Buskas' number "7" in screwed on dual layer yellow-over-white numerals, "Buskas" is screened on in single layer yellow letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Displaying heavy game-wear throughout including numerous team repairs and unrepaired holes throughout the body and sleeves, additional wear is present through stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves as well as board burns over both sleeves also. Also showing a red coloured board paint transfer mark over the right elbow and some spot staining/dinginess throughout its entirety, the interior of the jersey shows good pilling that is worth mentioning for accuracy. An LOA will accompany the piece.
