Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Following in the footsteps of fellow greats Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo became the just the third goaltender in NHL history to backstop his crease in over 1,000 games, a truly remarkable milestone (Luongo finished his career in 2nd place with 1,044 games, since surpassed by Marc-Andre Fleury). Achieving the feat on April 5, 2018, in a 3-2 win over Boston, we have the very pads the superstar was wearing that evening while making history, photo-matched for guaranteed authenticity to his milestone game, as well as throughout each month of the season! CCM Premier II models in solid white with blue and gold highlights, "Luongo" is embroidered at the bottom outside section of each pad, with Kay Whitmore initialing the bottom of the left pad as acting goaltending supervisor for the NHL (there is also "9-5" handwritten, along with an additional notation). The pair show heavy use with a ton of puck marks covering the front and sides of each pad, with additional wear and discolouration to the inside padding along with areas of red paint transfer. Getty Images #943008540 and 942439140 (April 05, 2018, 1,000th game) have both been matched to a number of marks on both pads. Additionally, showing that these pads were worn throughout the entire 2017-18 NHL season, Getty Images #930842344 (March 10, 2018), #925865902 (February 27, 2018), #885802782 (December 04, 2017), #883969032 (November 28, 2017) and #865153492 (October 20, 2017) have all been matched to a number of marks on both pads. Luongo has signed the front of each pad in black marker. Worn while reaching a milestone only a trio of other goaltenders in over 100 years of NHL hockey have been able to accomplish, these photo-matched gems are worthy of display in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
