Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A veteran of sixteen (16) Major League Baseball seasons after signing with the San Diego Padres as a seventeen (17) year old, Roberto Alomar would claim the Gold Glove Award on ten (10) occasions throughout his career to go along with twelve (12) all-star appearances and four (4) Silver Slugger Awards. Named the MVP of the 1992 American League Championship Series and a two-time World Series champion, happening in back-to-back years of 1992 and 1993, offered here is this bat used by Alomar as a member of the Blue Jays during the 1992 season, specifically during the 1992 ALCS against the Oakland Athletics in which he recorded eleven (11) hits in twenty-six (26) at-bats for a .423 batting average, including a double and two (2) home runs. A Cooper made stick with "Cooper Pro 100", "Roberto Alomar" and "Professional" stamped over the barrel in white ink, a Cooper barrel is stamped in matching style over the neck of the bat as well while a striped accent sticker remains wrapped around the top of the handle. Having had "16" stamped into the knob with Alomar's number "12" penned over the knob as well in black marker ink, it is important to note that this was added at some point after the fact since it is not seen in the photo-matches. Uncracked and intact, the bat measures 33 1/4" long and features a cupped barrel as well as a heavy coating of pine tar over the handle. Weighting roughly 32oz the bat shows heavy signs of game-use including ball and stitch impressions visible on the right, left and back barrel plus cleat marks that are observed on all sides of the barrel also. Additionally, numerous bat rack streaks are present throughout as well.
Regarding the photo-matches, the bat is conclusively photo-matched with Getty Image #52985662 (October 12th, 1992 vs Oakland - American League Championship Series Game 5) to the smudge above the "100" and the pine tar mark through the "E" in Cooper. Additionally, Getty Image #1132398833 (Undated vs Oakland - 1992 American League Championship Series) is matched to the wear pattern between the logos/stamps on the barrel and to the light white streak near the end of the barrel to the right of the printed "Professional" that is seen in white. Finally, Getty Image #52985663 (October 12th, 1992 vs Oakland - American League Championship Series Game 5) also shows a match to the wood grains running north/south on the barrel in correlation to the stamped "16" over the knob. Furthermore, a screenshot taken from footage of Alomar's 9th inning at-bat in Game 4 right before his home run off Eckersley seems to show a similar smudge in the area above the "100" that we see on the bat being offered but the image is not clear enough to call a conclusive video-match.
