Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
From the very first time he laced up his skates in the NHL, a force of nature had arrived on the
blue line, one whose impact unanimously regards him as one of the greatest defensemen to
ever play the game. Over an incredible 22-season career, he racked up 1,579 points, making
him the highest-scoring defenseman in NHL history. Bourque’s flawless skating allowed him to
dominate both ends of the ice, earning five Norris Trophies as the league’s top defenseman.
Even more impressive was his longevity — he remained elite well into his 40s, capping his
career with an emotional Stanley Cup win with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001.
Up for grabs is a Sher-Wood game-used stick from the 1989-90 season, when Bourque was at
the height of his powers, leading the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Final. The stick shows clear
signs of action, with wear visible along the shaft and blade. His own tape job remains intact on
both the blade and knob, a personal touch from one of hockey’s most iconic figures.
“BOURQUE R. 77” is printed on the nameplate of the shaft, and a bold black marker signature
graces the heel of the blade, perfectly positioned just before the tape job begins. On the
backside of the blade, “3/6/90” is written in black marker, dating this stick to a game at the
Spectrum in Philadelphia where the Bruins battled the Flyers. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
These sticks come from the personal collection of Lou Nolan, the legendary voice of the
Philadelphia Flyers. Nolan has been a fixture with the Flyers since the team’s inception in 1967,
starting as a press box assistant before becoming the team’s public address announcer in
1972—a role he’s held ever since. For over five decades, he has been calling plays for Flyers
hockey, his voice guiding us through some of the franchise’s most iconic moments. This of
course includes their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. These sticks,
personally gifted to Nolan by some of the NHL’s biggest legends, reflect the relationships he’s
built over his storied career and the trust and admiration he’s earned within the NHL community
