Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Led in scoring by the winner of the inaugural Art Ross Trophy that season, Elmer Lach, with the centreman and Rocket Richard both named to the NHL First Team All-Star, the Montreal Canadiens finished in fifth place in 1947-48, missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the last time until 1969-70. Gifted to players of les Canadiens that season by the famous Quebec woolen mill Ayers Limited of Lachute, we offer an original fine wool blanket in Montreal's iconic bleu, blanc et rouge colour scheme. Large at 90" in length with a width of 64", the high quality blanket according to our consignor was originally given to Burt Newbury who served as manager of the Montreal Forum in 1947-48, with our consignor in turn obtaining the historic keepsake upon purchase of Mr. Newbury's summer home including the contents in 1974. Since acquiring, our consignor has assured that the blanket has been well cared for and stored for the last half century, and it remains in gorgeous overall condition with no issues. This unique and substantial Canadiens artifact produced by an important cultural institution in Quebec hails from the glory days of the Habs, when the youthful exploits of the legendary Rocket brought unabashed pride to his French community.
