Featuring a rematch of the previous year’s final, the Pittsburgh Penguins would finish 2nd in the Atlantic Division at the conclusion of the 2008-09 NHL regular season before defeating Philadelphia, Washington and Carolina to meet the current-Cup champion Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup final. On the strength of Marc-Andre Fleury’s 16 playoff wins along with the 10 combined points provided in the final by both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, the Pens defeated the Motowners in 7 to claim their third Stanley Cup championship in franchise history.
This 2009 Penguins Stanley Cup champions diamond ring was produced by Intergold at the behest of Sergei Gonchar, to be gifted to a friend or family member. Size 11, and made of non-precious metal and plated, with real diamonds on the tableau, the tableau has been topped with a full colour Pens logo in black enamel over a diamond-encrusted Stanley Cup and encompassed along the outer rim with “Stanley Cup” and “Champions” in raised, angled letters. The right shank has "Gonchar" above with the score from each playoff series beneath, while the left shank features a trio of raised Stanley Cups with "2009" above. There is also a hallmark to the interior band. The ring shows wear from use including a few areas of colour loss to the surface, along with scratches and dings to the band and shanks. The ring also appears to have been resized at some point.
