Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
The roar of the Forum crowd often echoed loudest for the goal scorers, the bruisers, the
icons, but behind every dynasty is a player who stitched the seams together quietly, shift after
shift. Long before Phil Goyette lifted four Stanley Cups with the Canadiens, he was a wiry kid
from Lachine with a mind for the game. He didn’t dazzle with speed or overwhelm with strength,
but he saw the ice like few others. Every pass had intention, every play a touch of elegance.
Presented is a beautifully preserved CCM stick used by Goyette during the mid-1950s, while he
was a member of the Montreal Canadiens. The stick still features its original tape jobs on both
the knob and blade. Just below the knob, the shaft is stamped “Goyette 20,” a crisp and
personal identifier. Standard CCM stamp markings are present on both sides of the shaft,
although portions of the blue accent striping near the lower shaft have worn over time, but
remain visible. The blade has a few age-related cracks, which is common for wooden sticks of
the era, and there’s a small chip to the wood at the very tip of the straight blade. Visible signs of
game use are scattered across the shaft and blade in the form of puck and stick marks
throughout. Goyette has signed the stick in modern times in black marker, with his autograph
located on the left side of the shaft near the upper half.
