Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
The first Czech player to defect directly to a U.S.-based NHL team, Petr Klima initially spent a pair of seasons in his homeland with ASD Dukla Jihlava before making his North American debut with the Detroit Red Wings in 1985-86. Enjoying a lengthy career, Klima returned to Detroit for his final NHL season in 1998-99. A Stanley Cup champion with the Edmonton Oilers in 1990 who would play a total of 786 games in the National Hockey League over the course of thirteen (13) years in the league, offered here is this collection of equipment worn by Klima during and after his time in the NHL. All housed in a Tackla branded Detroit Red Wings equipment bag that shows wear via numerous marks and abrasions throughout, a number of small cuts and holes are found over the entirety of the bag but with the heaviest number over the ends. Featuring "Detroit Red Wings" and Tackla logos plus white canvas handles over both sides, the zipper is still functional and there is a stitched repair over one of the end seams. For the included equipment, present is Klima's helmet (mid-to-late 1990s - CCM), shoulder pads (JOFA SP 378 - 1980s era), Red Wings alumni pants (CCM - mid-2010s era), shin pads (JOFA JDP 5090 - 1990s), elbow pads (JDP 5035 - 1990s), laundry bag from the 8th Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp, protective cup and a CCM made World Team jersey from an unspecified charity event worn by Klima that has his name and number "85" over the reverse. In terms of condition, all the equipment pieces included show moderate to heavy wear depending on the piece, with the oldest pieces showing the most wear while the jersey itself shows no obvious signs of wear to make mention of. Wear/age is present via things like sweat staining, fraying/rubbing, colour transfers, rusting, cuts and rips/tears.
