Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Playing his junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League and helping them to an OHL Championship in 1983, Peter Sidorkiewicz would be drafted 91st overall by the Washington Capitals at the 1981 NHL Entry Draft and would go on to play a total of 246 games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Hartford, Ottawa and New Jersey. Experiencing the bulk of his NHL time between 1988-89 and 1992-93, offered here is this photo-matched Hartford Whalers jersey worn by Sidorkiewicz during the 1988-89 season, his rookie season in the NHL. Made by CCM and sporting a washed out Maska Air-Knit label affixed to the inner collar which has had Peter's number "30" penned to it in black marker ink, the jersey itself measures out to roughly a size "52" for its effort and has had the CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem, which shows some damage to the "M". Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Whalers team crest in layered tackle twill and retaining its fight strap on the interior, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Sidorkiewicz's number "30" in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill numerals. Having had "Sidorkiewicz" spelt out in matching style letters that have been sewn directly to the material of the jersey over the upper reverse, majority of the forearms of both sleeves have been cut to shorten them down to Sidorkiewicz's liking. Exhibiting good game-wear via puck marks over the front and both sleeves, areas of red post paint transfers on both sleeves, a couple of small unrepaired holes over the lower front, a team repair at one edge of the crest, more small unrepaired holes over the lower reverse and pilling around the collar and on the interior, general use and age staining is seen in areas throughout as well that is worth noting for accuracy. Regarding the photo-match, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #943551858 (February 15th, 1989 vs Toronto) to the layering of the "3" on the right sleeve and to the puck mark underneath it in the white stripe while Sidorkiewicz's 1990-91 Score card shows a match to the partially washed out puck marks in the front crest. An LOA will accompany the piece.
